Market Chatter: Visa to Face New Debit Card Monopoly Lawsuit, Judge Rules
Aug 20, 2025 3:37 PM

06:04 PM EDT, 08/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Visa (V) must face a new class-action lawsuit alleging it monopolized the US debit card market, a federal judge ruled, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

US District Judge Margo Brodie in Brooklyn determined that a prior $5.6 billion card swipe-fee settlement from 2019 doesn't bar new antitrust claims cases brought by merchants in a suit filed in October.

Visa sought to remove some of the merchant plaintiffs in the new cases, saying that they had waived their rights through the 2019 settlement, the report said.

Visa didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
