02:08 PM EDT, 04/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The World Health Organization is likely to issue a broader alert on a pediatric cough syrup over concerns that it contains high levels of diethylene glycol, Reuters reported Friday, citing correspondence from the UN agency.
The product alert, which WHO issues to "encourage diligence" by national authorities, is likely to be put out "subject to confirmation of certain details from parties," the report said, citing the WHO.
Nigeria's regulator recalled a batch of Benylin syrup for children Wednesday after routine testing found elevated levels of diethylene glycol in the product, according to the report. Kenvue ( KVUE ) , which sells the brand, told Reuters it did not detect either diethylene or ethylene glycol during its own testing on the batch recalled by Nigeria.
Kenvue ( KVUE ) and the WHO did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
