10:18 AM EDT, 08/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The Yukon government is attempting to put Victoria Gold Corp. ( VITFF ) into receivership as it attempts to gain more control over the site of a major cyanide spill in the territory, The Globe and Mail newspaper is reporting.
Over the past six weeks, the report noted, Victoria Gold ( VITFF ) has been attempting to mitigate the environmental damage from a catastrophic rockslide that occurred on its heap leach pad at its Eagle mine on June 24.
Eagle is located about 375 kilometres north of Whitehorse and 85 kilometres north of the village of Mayo, on the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun.
Whitehorse-based Victoria Gold ( VITFF ) said in a release before markets opened on Wednesday it was served with an application for the appointment of a receiver. When companies are put into receivership, management loses the authority to make decisions over the future of the business.
