10:25 AM EDT, 07/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Mastercard ( MA ) and Ant Group said Wednesday that they have expanded a program that makes it easier for foreigners to make payments in China to the cities of Chengdu and Chongqing.

The international consumer friendly zones program will be rolled out to over 60 primary shopping areas, tourist attractions, international airports and high-speed railway stations in the two cities, according to a media statement.

Foreigners will be able to bind major international bank cards to the Alipay app for payments without the need for a mainland China bank account or phone number, the companies said.

The international consumer friendly zones program was previously rolled out in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.
