08:44 AM EDT, 03/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- McDonald's (MCD) has severed its relationship with its franchisee in Sri Lanka and closed all 12 of its restaurants on the island nation, multiple news outlets reported Sunday.

Reuters quoted Sanath Wijewardane, a McDonald's attorney, as saying, "The parent company decided to terminate the agreement with the franchisee."

McDonald's did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
