McDonald's Loses Big Mac Trademark Case for Poultry Products in EU
Jun 5, 2024 3:58 AM

06:39 AM EDT, 06/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- McDonald's (MCD) has lost the "Big Mac" trademark case in the European Union's General Court after the court ruled on Wednesday that the fast-food chain does not have the right to use the term for poultry products after it had not used it for them for continuous period of five years.

The case relates to the Irish fast-food chain Supermac's efforts to revoke McDonald's trademark for the use of the name Big Mac. Supermac's revocation application was denied by the European Union Intellectual Property Office in December 2022.

McDonald's can appeal the ruling in the Court of Justice of the European Union.
