05:00 PM EST, 02/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- McEwen Mining ( MUX ) on Friday afternoon responded to the Apitipi Anicinapek Nation's (AAN) Feb. 12 claim that the company violated the impact benefit agreement (IBA) related to the Fox Complex.
"Concerning the environmental allegations, McEwen is fully committed to the protection of the environment at the Stock Mill. We continue to take appropriate steps to protect the environment and comply with laws. We do not believe there is cause for concern about harm to the environment or the public from the operation of the tailings facility," the company said.
Regarding the dispute over annual Brigus share payments, McEwen said it believes it's not responsible for shares not delivered by Primero before its purchase of Fox. The company added that is open to discussions with AAN and has provided $20 million in benefits since 2017. It also suggests that having an AAN representative present at Fox would help address misunderstandings and improve communication.
