ICICI Bank on Friday approved the appointment of former bureaucrat Girish Chandra Chaturvedi as the non-executive part-time chairman, effective from July 1, 2018.
Chaturvedi, an IAS officer from 1977 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre and retired as the country's oil secretary in January 2013, has extensive expertise and specialisation in energy, banking and insurance, finance and accounts (tax, finance comptroller for Commonwealth Games), medical, textile, and planning.
He has a rich and wide administrative experience of more than 35 years.
Chaturvedi served in the government of India at various levels as secretary, additional secretary, and joint secretary across a number of sectors, including banking, insurance, pension, health, family welfare and petroleum and natural gas.
Chaturvedi has served as government nominee director on the boards of Life Insurance Corporation(LIC) of India, GIC Re of India, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank Ltd., IDFC Ltd., New India Assurance Company Ltd., United India Insurance Company Ltd.,Agriculture Insurance Co. of India Ltd, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection and National Insurance Academy, Pune.
He holds an MSc in Physics from Allahabad University, and MSc in Economics (Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries) from London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. Chaturvedi also holds a doctorate in economic history from the University of Oxford.
