MEG Energy Evacuates Non-Essential Personnel From Christina Lake Regional Project Amid Wildfires
Jun 2, 2025 3:35 AM

06:27 AM EDT, 06/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- MEG Energy ( MEGEF ) over the weekend said it evacuated all non-essential personnel from Christina Lake Regional Project (CLRP) production facilities amid wildfires.

Critical operating staff have remained on site. The wildfire caused an outage to third-party power line infrastructure connecting CLRP to Alberta's electric grid, "prompting the company to safely disconnect from the grid," the company said in a statement.

The company was preparing to restart Phase 2B following the completion of the planned turnaround when the fire situation developed, stated the company.

This comes after MEG last Friday advised its shareholders to take no action on Strathcona Resources' ( STHRF ) tender offer. The company acknowledged the start of the Strathcona bid to acquire its shares for 0.62 a Strathcona share and $4.10 cash.

"The safety of our people and protection of our assets remain our top priorities, and there is no immediate risk to either," said MEG Energy ( MEGEF ) President and Chief Executive Darlene Gates. "We are working closely with authorities and coordinating with our industry peers to support each other and resume normal operations. I want to thank Alberta's emergency responders for their efforts in battling the fires and wish them continued safety."
