Meta Contests FTC's Bid to Amend 2020 Privacy Settlement on Messenger Kids
Apr 5, 2024 5:04 AM

07:42 AM EDT, 04/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta (META) pushed back on the US Federal Trade Commission's bid to amend a 2020 privacy settlement concerning the company's child-friendly chat, Messenger Kids, saying it had voluntarily disclosed two technical errors in the application to the agency.

The company said it had immediately disclosed in July 2019 the app's bugs that allowed kids to talk to contacts that their parents have not approved, Meta said in a filing made public on Thursday. It also took the FTC's requirements seriously and has spent $5.5 billion to improve its privacy protections, the company said.

The FTC had accused Meta of misleading parents about the app's privacy protections for their children.

The FTC did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
