Meta Faces Temporary Injunction by Turkish Competition Authority Over Linking Threads, Instagram
Mar 18, 2024 7:27 AM

10:04 AM EDT, 03/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) is facing a temporary injunction by the Turkish Competition Authority for allegedly abusing its "dominant position" by linking its Instagram and Threads apps, the regulator said Monday in a LinkedIn post.

The measures will remain in place until the probe is completed, the regulator added.

The authority also imposed an administrative fine of 4.8 million Turkish lira ($148,476) per day as part of a separate investigation that started in 2021 over combining data from Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, the regulator said.

Separately, the technology giant won an appeal in Brazil to overturn a prior court ruling that stopped it from using its name in the country due to confusion with another company, multiple media outlets reported.

The Brazilian Meta can still appeal the decision, Reuters reported.

Meta Platforms ( META ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
