Meta Platforms CEO Allegedly Knew Use of 'Pirated Copyrighted' Data to Train AI, Writers Say
Jan 10, 2025 5:42 AM

08:17 AM EST, 01/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg knowingly used "pirated copyrighted works" to program its artificial intelligence datasets, according to writers suing the tech giant.

In a court document filed Wednesday, the plaintiffs alleged that internal Meta records show that Zuckerberg approved the use of LibGen data despite concerns from the company's AI executive team that LibGen is "a dataset we know to be pirated."

"Meta produced some of the most incriminating internal documents" relevant to its copyright infringement claim and fair use defense, according to the filing. "These documents concern Meta's torrenting and processing of pirated copyrighted works."

Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
