10:51 AM EDT, 08/02/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms' ( META ) Instagram has been blocked in Turkey over allegations of censoring posts about Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's assassination, according to media reports Friday.
The Financial Times reported that the Information and Communication Technologies Authority of Turkey implemented the block on Friday, though Facebook and WhatsApp remain accessible.
The regulator did not provide a reason for blocking access to the social media platform, according to the Associated Press.
Fahrettin Altun, Turkey's communications chief condemned Instagram on Wednesday for allegedly preventing users from sharing condolences for Haniyeh, describing the action as "pure and simple," censorship, the FT said.
Meta didn't respond to comment requests from the FT and the AP, according to the reports.

Shares of Meta were down 4% in recent Friday trading.
