11:58 AM EDT, 11/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) said it was notified about a potential lawsuit from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau over alleged violations related to advertising for financial products and services on the company's platform.
Meta said in a regulatory filing Wednesday that it received the notice under the CFPB's Notice and Opportunity to Respond and Advise process on Sept. 18, informing the company that the agency's staff may recommend legal action.
Meta said it has officially responded to the notice. "We disagree with the claims staff is considering and believe an enforcement action is unwarranted," Meta said in the securities filing.
The CFPB could file a lawsuit seeking financial penalties and other relief in the near-term, Meta added.
The CFPB did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
