09:10 AM EDT, 09/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) said Tuesday it rolled out Instagram Teen Accounts with built-in protections that limit who can contact teens, the content they see and the time they spend on the app.
The company said teens will be automatically placed into Teen Accounts, and those under 16 will need permission from a parent to use less restrictive settings.
Meta said it is now starting to place teens who sign up for Instagram on the Teen Accounts, while those already using the app will be notified about the changes so they can be moved into Teen Accounts beginning next week.
The company said it plans to place teens in the US, UK, Canada and Australia in Teen Accounts within 60 days, those in the EU later this year, and the rest of the world starting in January.
