06:31 AM EDT, 08/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) was issued an injunction filed by Polish billionaire Rafal Brzoska, temporarily banning the social media operator from publishing allegedly fake ads with images of Brzoska or his wife in Poland, news outlets reported Tuesday.
Brzoska, the chief executive of InPost, and his wife Omena Mensah, are planning to sue Meta over alleged fake ads on Facebook and Instagram that feature the couple, Reuters reported.
With the Polish Personal Data Protection Office's three-month ban on Meta in place, Brzoska said he is waiting on whether the Irish Data Protection Commission will pick up on the Polish regulator's injunction before deciding on which jurisdiction to sue in, Bloomberg reported. The Irish regulator oversees Facebook's European headquarters in Dublin.
"It will be the long battle, and I want to find out how big are revenues from ads that use deepfakes for fraudulent purposes," Brzoska was quoted as saying in the Bloomberg report. Bloomberg also said that Brzoska intends to convince other famous Poles to help pressure Meta to recognize fake content on its platform.
Brzoska said he informed Meta of the problem last month but the company failed to solve the issue, Reuters reported. Brzoska also told the news outlet that he will consider all possible scenarios, including a lawsuit in the US if there is inaction in Europe.
Meanwhile, a Meta spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company removes false content when found and is evaluating the Polish regulator's decision.
Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
