Meta Platforms to Pay $1.4 Billion to Settle Texas Facial Recognition Data Suit, State Attorney General Says

10:38 AM EDT, 07/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) has reached a $1.4 billion settlement with Texas to settle the state's lawsuit accusing the Facebook parent of illegally using facial recognition technology to gather biometric data of users in the state without their consent, Attorney General Ken Paxton said Tuesday.

The company will pay the amount to the state over five years, Paxton said.

Meta didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
