04:14 PM EDT, 09/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) Wednesday introduced updated versions of its Ray Ban-styled smart eyeglasses at its Meta Connect event, featuring real-time language translations and additional audio and video content.

According to the company, the new voice-activated eyewear can record and send voice messages through Meta's WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger platforms. Other features include the Be My Eyes app connecting people who are blind or have limited vision with sighted volunteers who can guide the users through their immediate surroundings, it said.

The social media company also is adding new audio content such as Amazon (AMZN) Music and Spotify and new partnerships with Audible and iHeart, it said

Meta also debuted Orion line of augmented-reality glasses, featuring two- and three-dimensional holographic displays and human-computer interaction tools.

Meta shares were set to close about 1.3% higher on Wednesday.
