Meta Shares Fall After Trump Calls Facebook an 'Enemy of the People'
Mar 11, 2024 12:20 PM

02:45 PM EDT, 03/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) shares fell 4% in recent Monday trading after presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump called Meta's Facebook an "enemy of the people" in a CNBC interview and said the social-media platform could get "bigger" if social media app TikTok is banned.

The former US president, however, also expressed his national security and data privacy concerns over TikTok, which was developed by Chinese internet technology company ByteDance.

"I think Facebook has been very bad for our country, especially when it comes to elections," Trump told CNBC.

Trump's remarks come as US legislators are again taking on concerns surrounding TikTok.

Meta, Facebook, and ByteDance did not immediately responded to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
