Meta Should Step Up Content Moderation Efforts, Malaysia Government Says
Apr 9, 2024 5:49 AM

08:20 AM EDT, 04/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta (META) should increase its efforts in monitoring content in its social media platforms, Malaysia's communications regulator said Tuesday, citing thousands of harmful content found online this year alone.

In the first three months of the year, the Malaysian government said it found 51,638 cases across several social media platforms, including Meta's Facebook and Instagram as well as short-video provider TikTok, compared with 42,904 cases in the previous year.

The government also urged social media companies to regulate content related to race, religion and royalty as well as those related to financial scams and illegal online gambling.

Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
