11:17 AM EDT, 06/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Methanex ( MEOH ) on Friday closed the US$1.6-billion acquisition of OCI Global's international methanol business.

Methanex ( MEOH ) paid US$1.2 billion in cash, issued 9.9-million Methanex ( MEOH ) shares and assumed $450 million of debt. OCI will hold a 12.9% stake in the company following the close, becoming its second largest shareholder.

The acquisition secures Methanex ( MEOH ) an interest in two large methanol facilities in Beaumont, Texas, which have access to North American natural gas feedstock and one of which also produces ammonia; a low-carbon methanol production and marketing business, and a currently idled methanol facility in the Netherlands.

Methanex ( MEOH ) shares were last seen up $0.11 to $47.59 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
