02:01 PM EDT, 09/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) will not face any scrutiny in the European Union for its acquisition of certain Inflection AI assets after seven member states withdrew their initial referral requests, the European Commission said Wednesday.

The member states withdrew the requests after the European Court of Justice's decision regarding Illumina's ( ILMN ) acquisition of Grail and the procedure is closed, the Commission said.

"The Commission will take no decision in this matter," according to the press release.

Member states cannot refer a transaction to the Commission if they are not competent to review the deal under their national merger control rules, the Court of Justice had ruled in the Illumina ( ILMN )/Grail case.

Neither Microsoft ( MSFT ) nor Inflection immediately responded to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
