10:11 AM EDT, 07/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft's ( MSFT ) agreement to receive electricity from fusion energy took a step forward Wednesday as Helion Energy said it has begun site work on its first fusion power plant in Chelan County, Washington.
The facility, named Orion, is being developed on land leased from the Chelan County Public Utility District.
Microsoft ( MSFT ) signed a power purchase agreement in 2023 for electricity generated by fusion. Under the deal, Helion is expected to begin delivering power by 2028, with Constellation Energy ( CEG ) serving as the power marketer.
With construction now underway in the town of Malaga, Helion said it remains on track to meet its 2028 delivery goal, adding that it continues working through the remaining permitting steps to construct and operate a commercial fusion power plant.
