Microsoft, G42 Launch $1 Billion Investment Package With Kenya to Support East Africa Cloud Services

01:02 PM EDT, 05/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) and artificial intelligence company G42 said Wednesday that they are launching a package of digital investments in Kenya as part of an initiative with the country's Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

G42 will lead the arrangement of an initial investment of $1 billion, which will include a green data center that will be built by G42 and its partners to run Microsoft Azure in a new East Africa Cloud Region.

The initiative will also include local-language AI model development and research, an East Africa Innovation Lab, international and local connectivity investments, and collaborations with the Kenyan government to support cloud services in East Africa.
