07:33 AM EDT, 04/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said Thursday that Moscow-linked hackers infiltrated Microsoft's ( MSFT ) email system to pilfer emails between officials and the tech firm.

The government agency said the Russian government-backed entity known as Midnight Blizzard has stolen correspondence between Federal Civilian Executive Branch agencies and Microsoft ( MSFT ) after compromising Microsoft ( MSFT ) corporate email accounts in an incident the company first disclosed in January.

Midnight Blizzard is now using the information it obtained through the first hack to attempt to gain access to other Microsoft ( MSFT ) systems, a statement said.
