Microsoft Offers to Unbundle Teams From Office Amid EU Antitrust Probe
May 26, 2025 9:22 AM

06:33 AM EDT, 05/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) has proposed to sell Office without Teams at a lower price and improve interoperability for rivals, the European Commission said Friday.

The European agency said the move addresses EU antitrust concerns over Microsoft ( MSFT ) abusing its dominant position in the market for SaaS productivity applications by bundling Teams with Office 365.

Under the proposal, the customers could opt for Office without Teams-even under existing contracts-and migrate data to rival platforms, the European Commission said.

The implementation of the commitments would last up to 10 years and be overseen by a monitoring trustee, the European Commission said, adding that the monitoring trustee will also mediate in case of disputes between third parties and Microsoft ( MSFT ) and report regularly to the Commission.

The European Commission said it is now seeking feedback from competitors and customers before deciding on the proposal.
