07:18 AM EDT, 06/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) President Brad Smith is set to testify before the US House Committee on Homeland Security on Thursday over the company's security measures after a 2023 cyber intrusion by Chinese hackers that was investigated by the committee's Cyber Safety Review Board or CSRB.
"Microsoft ( MSFT ) accepts responsibility for each and every one of the issues cited in the CSRB's report," Smith said in a written testimony sent to the committee ahead of the hearing. According to Smith, CSRB's report outlined 25 recommendations to address security lapses that led to the 2023 security incident, which was perpetrated by "malicious actors referred to as
Storm-0558, affiliated with the People's Republic of China."
Smith said the company is "taking action" to address the recommendations and added more security objectives after its own assessment of the incident. Microsoft ( MSFT ) has invited the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on behalf of the CSRB to its headquarters to evaluate its progress in implementing the recommendations, Smith added.
