05:59 AM EST, 01/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) is again considering an acquisition of TikTok, the social media platform owned by Chinese company ByteDance, President Donald Trump said Monday, news outlets reported.

"I would say yes," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One when asked if the software giant is in discussions to purchase the app, Bloomberg News reported. "A lot of interest in TikTok. There's great interest in TikTok."

Microsoft ( MSFT ) emerged as a top bidder for TikTok during Trump's first term but a deal never came to fruition, news outlets reported. Citing national security concerns, the US government has for years demanded that the short video platform separate from its Chinese parent company.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) and ByteDance did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
