06:59 AM EST, 01/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) said late Tuesday it has partnered with OpenAI to cooperate on Stargate.

The announcement comes after OpenAI said Tuesday it will be an equity funder in a new company called The Stargate Project along with Oracle (ORCL), SoftBank and MGX with plans to "invest $500 billion over the next four years building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States."

Microsoft ( MSFT ) said it has approved "OpenAI's ability to build additional capacity, primarily for research and training of models" and added that key elements of their cooperation remain in place through 2030, including its access to OpenAI's IP, revenue sharing arrangements and exclusivity on OpenAI's APIs. Microsoft ( MSFT ) said it remains "a major investor in OpenAI."

OpenAI said Microsoft ( MSFT ) as well as Arm, NVIDIA ( NVDA ) , Oracle, and OpenAI are the "key initial technology partners" of Stargate.
