Microsoft to Lay Off Employees in Azure Cloud, Mixed Reality Businesses

07:02 AM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) is planning to lay off hundreds of employees, multiple media outlets reported Monday, citing sources.

One cited source told Business Insider that Microsoft ( MSFT ) is cutting as many as 1,500 jobs from Azure for Operators and Mission Engineering teams.

An unnamed person told CNBC that Microsoft ( MSFT ) is laying off over 1,000 people, including in mixed reality.

A spokesperson for Microsoft ( MSFT ) has reportedly confirmed to CNBC that the company will lay off some employees who work on mixed reality, including those working on the HoloLens 2 augmented reality headset. Microsoft ( MSFT ) plans to continue selling the headset, according to the CNBC report.

"Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business," a Microsoft ( MSFT ) spokesperson said when inquired by Reuters. "We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners," the spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) di not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
