Microsoft to Shut Down Skype in May

10:09 AM EST, 02/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) said Friday it is shutting down its Skype calling and messaging service on May 5.

The company will allow Skype users to move to Microsoft Teams for free on any supported device using their Skype credentials, Jeff Teper, president of Microsoft ( MSFT ) 365 Collaborative Apps and Platforms, said in a blog post.

Users who don't want to migrate to Teams can instead export their data, including chats, contacts and call history, Teper said.
