10:51 AM EDT, 06/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) on Monday introduced a new artificial intelligence tool designed to diagnose complex medical cases more accurately than human doctors.

The Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO) tool was tested using 304 complex cases from the New England Journal of Medicine, where the system achieved the correct diagnosis in 85.5% of the cases, using OpenAI's o3 model, compared to 20% for human doctors working without external help, the company said.

The tool was developed under Microsoft's ( MSFT ) AI unit, led by Mustafa Suleyman, potentially paving the path for "medical superintelligence" that could ease doctor shortages and reduce treatment delays, multiple media outlets reported.
