03:32 PM EDT, 09/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) reported Friday security and privacy updates for Recall, its artificial intelligence-powered feature that takes snapshots of users' screen every few seconds while content on the screen is different from the previous snapshot.
"Recall is designed to help you instantly and securely find what you've seen on your PC," the blog said, adding that Recall is an opt-in experience, with users given an option whether to opt-in to saving snapshots during the set-up experience for Copilot+ PCs.
If a user doesn't proactively choose to turn it on, it will be off, and snapshots will not be taken or saved, the posting said. Users can also remove Recall entirely by using the optional features settings in Windows.
Sensitive data in Recall is always encrypted and keys are protected, the blog said, adding that Recall services that operate on snapshots and associated data are isolated.
