Microsoft-backed Open AI Reportedly in Talks for up to $25 Billion Investment From SoftBank
Jan 30, 2025 4:00 AM

06:36 AM EST, 01/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) -backed OpenAI is in discussions for an investment of $15 billion to $25 billion from Japanese conglomerate SoftBank, multiple media outlets reported citing a person familiar with the matter.

The person said that some of the investment may be used to pay for OpenAI's commitment to Stargate, a joint venture of Oracle (ORCL), OpenAI and SoftBank.

SoftBank's investment would be in addition to the $15 billion it has already committed to Stargate, the source said, adding that the talks are at an early stage and may not result in an investment.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter while SoftBank was not immediately reachable.
