Microsoft-Backed OpenAI Launches Stargate Argentina AI Infrastructure Project

02:02 PM EDT, 10/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is launching Stargate Argentina, an artificial intelligence infrastructure project to develop a large-scale data center in the country, the Argentine government said in a statement Friday.

OpenAI and Sur Energy signed a letter of intent to support next-generation AI computing with a capacity of up to 500 megawatts, according to the statement.

The initiative, structured under Argentina's RIGI framework, includes an investment of up to $25 billion, making it one of the largest energy technology and infrastructure projects in the country's history, the statement added.
