01:59 PM EDT, 08/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) unit GitHub's Chief Executive Thomas Dohmke said Monday he is stepping down from the role.

In a blog post, he said he has decided to leave the company to become a founder again.

"GitHub and its leadership team will continue its mission as part of Microsoft's ( MSFT ) CoreAI organization, with more details shared soon," he added.

Dohmke also said he will stay through the end of 2025 to ensure a smooth transition.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) acquired GitHub in 2018 for $7.5 billion in stock.
