11:07 AM EDT, 10/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft's ( MSFT ) professional networking platform LinkedIn has been fined 310 million euros ($334.9 million) by the Irish Data Protection Commission over the company's targeted advertising practices, the regulator said Thursday.
The decision pertains to claims from 2018 about some of the company's digital advertising efforts in the European Union.
"The processing of personal data without an appropriate legal basis is a clear and serious violation of a data subject's fundamental right to data protection," DPC Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle said.
"While we believe we have been in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation, we are working to ensure our ad practices meet this decision by the IDPC's deadline," a LinkedIn spokesperson told MT Newswires in an e-mailed statement.
