Moderna Gets Health Canada's Approval for Updated COVID-19 Vaccine; Shares Rise

12:00 PM EDT, 09/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Moderna ( MRNA ) said Tuesday it has received Health Canada's approval for its updated SPIKEVAX COVID-19 vaccine targeting the KP.2 sub-lineage of SARS-CoV-2 in individuals six months of age and older.

The drugmaker said it will start delivering these updated doses to the Public Health Agency of Canada, ensuring availability for upcoming provincial and territorial vaccination campaigns.

Health Canada's approval was based on a mix of manufacturing, pre-clinical, clinical, non-clinical, and real-world evidence demonstrating the efficacy and safety of Moderna's ( MRNA ) COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, the company said.

The company's shares were up 7.6% in recent trading.
