10:44 AM EDT, 04/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Moolec Science ( MLEC ) said Monday that the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture has determined that the company's modified soybean is not subject to regulations for the movement of genetically engineered organisms.
In its letter to the company posted online, APHIS said Moolec's genetically engineered soybean Piggy Sooy is "unlikely to pose an increased plant pest risk" relative to non-engineered soybeans and is, thus, not subject to regulations under 7 CFR part 340.
The company said it is consulting with the US Food and Drug Administration for further development of Piggy Sooy, which was modified to add animal meat protein.
Moolec Science ( MLEC ) shares were up more than 76% in recent trading Monday.
