Lot more people are now taking the plunge to buy properties than before, Keki Mistry, VC & CEO of HDFC said in an interview to CNBC-TV18.
Mistry said loan disbursements to individuals during the September quarter had risen 11 percent year-on-year. Also, the number of individual loans disbursements in October were the second highest for a month, and up 35 percent year-on-year.
Mistry further added that home loan rates have come down considerably, but were unlikely to fall much from these levels.
“Interest rates have come down, I don’t think they can go down much lower. Stamp duty rates are much lower today; they are 40 percent of what they would become after the concession is removed,” he said.
On net interest margins (NIMs), Mistry said that NIM for the quarter is at 3.3 percent and for the 6 months period is at 3.2 percent. “3.3 percent is as good as it has ever been. I don’t know how much more scope there is for expansion,” he added.
