Musk Sues OpenAI, Altman, Brockman for Prioritizing Profits Over Public Welfare
Aug 5, 2024 10:16 AM

12:56 PM EDT, 08/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, its co-founder Gregory Brockman and CEO Sam Altman accusing them of prioritizing profits over public welfare, according to a court filing Monday.

The lawsuit reportedly seeks to divest Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI co-founders of "their ill-gotten gains," as OpenAI was built as a not-for-profit, to be open-sourced and for public benefit.

OpenAI and Microsoft ( MSFT ) are profiting from technology that was initially promised to be freely available for public benefit, according to the lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

The new lawsuit repeats certain claims from a February lawsuit against OpenAI and its co-founders, but now adds allegations of racketeering.

OpenAI, Tesla, Microsoft ( MSFT ) and other Musk-owned entities did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

Struggling Jet Airways is likely to finalise a resolution plan with its lenders this week and founder and chairman Naresh Goyal is likely to step down from the board, giving up majority control, three banking sources familiar with the matter told CNBC-TV18. Goyal would trim his 51 percent stake to 20-25 percent and agree to voting rights on his stake being capped at 10 percent in a bid to save the debt-laden carrier, they said, asking not to be named.
