04:12 PM EDT, 09/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Nasdaq (NDAQ) filed a proposal Monday with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to amend its rules to allow trading of securities in tokenized form.
The change would give investors the option of trading securities via traditional digital representation of ownership, with or without blockchain backing, according to the filing.
"The exchange believes the markets can use tokenization while continuing to provide the benefits and protections of the national market system," according to the filing.
Trading in tokenized securities may begin once the required infrastructure and post-trade settlement services are set up by the Depository Trust Co., possibly by the end of Q3 2026, Nasdaq said.
