12:48 PM EDT, 06/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Some commentators have questioned Quebecor's ability to succeed outside Quebec, given aggressive moves by the Big 3 to smother Freedom pricing over the past 14 months, notes National Bank.
Analyst Adam Shine estimates over 4.6 million wireless subscribers will churn in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia this year. While he acknowledges that bundling efforts will reduce pockets of churn, other forces are at play that will elevate it -- temporary/permanent arrivals to Canada, promotional intensity among flanker/fighter brands, and more BYOD subscribers holding onto phones longer. "To those churning, we can add New to Canada and incremental domestic penetration that expand total subscribers by over a million each year."
With the help of a third-party research platform, NBF conducted a survey which asked 1,515 respondents in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto questions about their wireless purchasing behaviour. Bottom line -- consumers in these cities are not averse to change. "We see Freedom and Fizz gaining share because it's there for the taking, especially among more cost-conscious consumers," Shine adds.
