06:17 AM EDT, 04/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The international community has responded to the latest wave of tariffs the Trump administration announced Wednesday, with certain nations, including China and the European Union, vowing to implement countermeasures.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU is finalizing its first round of tariffs on US goods in response to the US tariffs implemented in March and is now "preparing for further countermeasures" if negotiations fail, media outlets reported.
China's Ministry of Commerce has also issued a statement saying it opposes the US tariffs and will take countermeasures. China received another 34% tariff in addition to the pre-existing 20% tariff levied on all Chinese imports to the US, the reports said.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is also planning a retaliatory move in response to the tariffs, further stating that details will be discussed during his Thursday meeting with province and territory premiers, BBC reported.
Meanwhile, the Taiwanese government plans to discuss the 32% tariffs the US levied on its products, excluding semiconductors.
