09:18 AM EDT, 08/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Natural gas fell to a 10-month low early on Monday as forecasts see a cool start to September, cutting into air-conditioning demand.
Gas for September delivery was last seen down US$0.04 to US$2.66 per million British thermal units, the lowest since Nov.1.
The drop comes as long-term forecasts from the National Weather Service expect most states east of the Rocky Mountains to be cooler than usual over the next six to 14 days. Low cooling demand over the period is expected to send more supply to already flush inventories of the fuel.
"After a sharp sell-off on Friday NYMEX natural gas is set for another rough session as weather continues to look unsupportive over the next few weeks. The with summer waning it is becoming clear that the expectation of strong power sector demands and growing exports limiting injections and give us a below normal storage level to enter winter is simply not going to manifest," Gary Cunningham, Director of Market Research at Tradition Energy, noted.
