09:29 AM EST, 01/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Natural gas prices rose early on Friday as cold weather for most states boosts heating demand for the fuel.
Gas for February delivery was last seen up US$0.23 to US$3.93 per million British thermal units.
The rise comes as much of the United States is seeing colder than seasonal weather, while longer-term forecasts see temperatures remaining at or below seasonal averages over the next two weeks for nearly all states.
"It's been quite cold over many regions of the US this week, and it will be quite cold for many regions of the US again next week. This will keep national demand strong to very strong," NatGasWeather noted.
Demand figures from S&P Global Platts supplied by the U.S. Natural Gas Association showed the call on gas supplies rose to 159-billion cubic feet per day on Thursday, up from 136.6-bcf a week earlier.
