NCAA Seeking to Ban Proposition Betting on College Athletes
Mar 27, 2024 9:22 AM

11:50 AM EDT, 03/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- National Collegiate Athletic Association President Charlie Baker on Wednesday urged states that have legalized sports gambling to ban proposition betting on college athletes.

"Sports betting issues are on the rise across the country with prop bets continuing to threaten the integrity of competition and leading to student-athletes and professional athletes getting harassed," Baker said in a statement posted on X.

A proposition, or prop, bet is a wager on a certain player or event in a game that is not dependent on the outcome of a contest, such as whether a player will score more or less than a certain number of points.

DraftKings (DKNG) fell 5.9%, Boyd Gaming ( BYD ) gained 0.9%, and MGM Resorts International (MGM) was down 0.5% in recent trading.
