New York Times Demands Perplexity to Stop Using its Content to Train AI
Oct 17, 2024 12:39 PM

07:27 AM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The New York Times Company ( NYT ) has sent Jeff Bezos-backed startup Perplexity a cease-and-desist notice over its use of the news outlet's content to train its generative AI language model, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing a letter sent by lawyers.

The New York Times ( NYT ) is also suing Microsoft-backed OpenAI over the use of its content.

"Perplexity and its business partners have been unjustly enriched by using, without authorization, The Times's expressive, carefully written and researched, and edited journalism without a license," the Journal cited the New York Times ( NYT ) as saying.

The New York Times ( NYT ) and Perplexity did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
