New Zealand Seizes LATAM Boeing 787 Black Boxes After Accident; Boeing Reportedly Fails FAA Audit on 737 Max Production
Mar 12, 2024 4:54 AM

07:30 AM EDT, 03/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- New Zealand's Transport Accident Investigation Commission said Tuesday that it is seizing the cockpit voice and flight data recorders of a LATAM Airlines Boeing (BA) 787 jet as part of an investigation into a mid-flight accident that injured more than 50 passengers and crew.

Chile's civil aviation authority, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, had launched an investigation into the Sydney-Auckland flight that dropped mid-air on Monday and requested the TAIC's assistance, the TAIC said.

Separately, The New York Times reported Tuesday that Boeing ( BA ) failed 33 of 89 audits by the Federal Aviation Administration on the manufacturing process for its 737 Max, the plane involved in a door panel blowout mid-air in January.

The FAA did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. Boeing ( BA ) also did not immediately respond to a request for comment on either the TAIC or FAA probes.
