Jaishankar and Blinken discuss G20 and Economic Corridor's potential, no mention of Canada row

The statement issued by the US Department of State after the meeting between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar made no mention of the killing of a Khalistani leaders in Canada's Surrey in July. The alleged murder of the separatist leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, has triggered a diplomatic row between India and Canada.

According to Reuters, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had earlier said he was sure US Secretary of State Antony Blinken would raise the murder of a Sikh separatist leader when he met his Indian counterpart on Thursday. However, the US statement had no mention of the issue.

Win some, lose some — Mapping BJP's friends and foes

You win some, you lose some. The proverb came to life this week as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forged an alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka, but lost its ally in Tamil Nadu. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) severed its four-year-old ties with the BJP, walking out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) months ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The political churning are inevitable in both the NDA and the challenger INDIA Alliance given the high-stakes Lok Sabha battle next year. For BJP particularly, the break-up with the AIADMK is concerning given the party has been trying hard to build a strong presence in the southern states.
